Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – Fundamentals

Our fundamentals self-defence program is perfect for any adult who is just starting their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey, or those wanting to master the building blocks of BJJ. There is minimal sparring (only positional sparring), and you will learn the fundamental techniques of Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Including

  • Warmups and drills – exercises safely practiced alone and with partners to condition students for their physical training.
  • Self-defence – effective responses to the most common attacks such as kicks, headlocks, and punches.
  • Ground grappling – attacks and defences essential for ground fighting.

Jiu-Jitsu consists of more than 1000 techniques so it can be overwhelming knowing where to start. However, analysis of real fights has shown that there are 88 fundamental techniques which are used more often and with greater success than all the other techniques combined. Our fundamentals program is entirely dedicated to the mastery of these 88 essential techniques. You can start the program at any time and can participate in any class without previous experience as there is no competitive sparring in this program. Ivan conducts all classes in a supportive training environment and is committed to ensuring that every new student feels comfortable and safe regardless of age, gender, or ability.

For beginners we recommend you complete a minimum of 60 fundamental classes before you attend an Advanced Class. We do this for many reasons; to keep you safe and injury free, to help you learn correct movement patterns, and to equip you with a solid understanding of the basics before you begin to spar.

To help you on your journey from White to Blue Belt we also provide all our members complimentary access to our digital curriculum. With almost 5 hours of video content and more than 80 techniques, this Masterclass summarizes just about all the techniques you’ll come across in your first few years of BJJ. Ivan breaks down the most frequently taught White Belt moves so you won’t just be more confident about coming to class, you’ll also build the strong foundations to make the move to the All Levels Class, and in the lead up to grading.
